Wrexham are League Champions but University secure the FAW Futsal Cup

Wrexham crowned FAW Elite Futsal League Champions but University secure the FAW Futsal Cup.

In a thrilling end to the domestic season the two domestic finals in Wales saw Wrexham crowned league champions for the first time and Cardiff University securing the cup for their first.

FAW Elite Futsal League

In a reverse of last season the two best club futile sides in Wales share the spoils but both were tested severely on route to success.

In the FAW Elite Futsal League sponsored by Mark Harrod Wrexham booked their place in the final by easily defeating Britton Ferry Llansawel. the two would meet again in the cup with a slightly different game unfolding.

Cardiff University had to endure a tough encounter against new club Bangor University. The students from North Wales put in a determined and strong performance to run the South Wales champions close but could not cause an upset.

That set up a mouth watering tie between the South conference winners and North conference winners. In a fantastic spectacle of excellent quality Wrexham started the stronger. End to end wave of attacks unfolded and University seemed to tire slightly in the closing minutes of the game.

Wrexham stayed strong and secured their first Elite Futsal league title to become national league champions of Wales

FAW Futsal Cup

With a great day of Welsh Premier League academy Futsal also taking place all under one rough a grand finale of domestic final took place at the Cardiff House of Sport. Cardiff University responded from their league disappointment to put away plough Gresford but it was a close game of a very high standard.

Next up was defending Champions Wrexham Glyndwr who were looking to win the cup for a third consecutive year. There opponents Britton Ferry Llansawel had their own ambitions and a barnstorming game unfolded. In an intense but controlled game a fantastic Futsal spectacle unfolded. Britton Ferry took the lead and despite runlets pressure from Wrexham who responded on many occasions, the team from West Wales stood their ground. A tense finish saw Wrexham narrowly defeated and ensure Britton Ferry progressed to their first FAW Futsal Cup final.

A final of Cardiff University versus Britton Ferry Llansawel meant there would be a new domestic cup champion in Wales. With the UEFA Futsal Cup spot also up for grabs the finale would be a very important result for the winning club progressing into Europe.

An intense day and intense ceasing came to a close with Cardiff University securing a calculated victory and ensure they lifted the Cup for the first time and can look forward to the UEFA Futsal Cup draw in July.
